An Assessment of GBV after the 2010 Flooding Emergency in Benin

During the 2010 rainy season, Benin experienced extraordinary flooding throughout the country. As part of CARE's emerency response, CARE carried out an assessment on violence against women and girls to better understand the gender-based risks and vulnerabilities faced by women and girls since the excessive flooding in 2010, and to assess the support services available to survivors of violence. The main purpose of this study was to make plans for addressing gender-based violence in the next rehabilitation phase of CARE Benin’s emergency response, including pre-planning to address the vulnerabilities of women and girls in future emergencies.
